School is going really well for me. I've completed three classes and am glad to say that my average grade is an A-. Right now I just started a Statistics class and am a bit scared about how I will do. I really really hate math and I have a lot of assignments due for it. Good thing it only lasts five weeks or else I would be in some big trouble.

2. As you know, Isaac is now three years old! It's crazy to think that Danae and I have a three year old who can ask for thing, tell us when he doesn't feel good, sing, dance and basically do whatever he wants...except use the pottie! We've tried so many things: bribing him with treats and toys, getting two different potties for him to sit on, and just trying to sit him on the pottie and see if he will use it. He must get his stubbornness from his mother :)

3. Danae and I have gone on a few vacations recently that have been much needed. We have been planning on going to Disneyland for Isaacs' birthday since March and have been so excited to go, especially since it was October and they would have all of it decorated for Halloween! It was totally awesome! One of my favorite rides was closed the ENTIRE time: Indiana Jones! Can you believe it! All of us were so dissapointed, but we didn't let it get us down. We all liked going on Pirates of the Caribbean cause it was a long, slow and ejoyable ride...unless you were Isaac. He didn't like Pirates too much until the last time we went on it. He would always bury his head in Danae's shoulder and keep his eyes closed the whole time. On the last day at Disneyland we had a breakfast with Minnie and Friends. It was so much fun and watching Isaac with all the characters was the best part. At one part music came on and Eeyore was close to us and Isaac jumped out of his seat and started dancing with Eeyore! It was so cute! Then other kids followed suit and joined in.

So that's my life right now in a nut shell. I've been super busy with school and teaching x-ray classes at the DATC that I haven't had a whole lot of time for much else. I will say that I am so happy to have my family though. They are the world to me and I wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING. Love you both Danae and Isaac!

Another fun riddle

Can you name three consecutive days without using the words

Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?

Which Room Answer

You all had it right...except for Kjersti with the fire room. Please follow the instructions EXACTLY or it will not work.

1. How many times a week do you want chocolate? Between 1 and 9.

2. Now times that number by 2.

3. Now add 5 to that number.

4. Multiply that number by 50.

5. If you have already had your b-day this year add 1759, if not add 1758.

6. Subtract the four digit year you were born.

7. You should now have a 3 digit number.

8. The first number is your original Chocolate number, and the last two numbers are your age.

FYI, this is the only year that this riddle will work.

New events in my crazy life

So life as we know it has gotten a little bit easier for me. As of May 18th I am officially a Registered Technologist. I studied, and studied, and studied some more in order to pass. I took almost 30 online mock tests and thought I was doing pretty well. I was pretty nervous about taking my boards. I'm not a very good test taker. My skills come in to play when you put me in a situation where I have to show my skills. Not try and regurgitate them out of my ginormous brain. It's hard to pull things out of there when they're all the way in the back. So I got to the testing center at about 7:45 and had 4 hours to take a 220 question test. The online tests that I was taking were complicated and seemed to try and trick you. They were not straight forward questions so I got confused quite a bit when I thought the answer I put was right and thought that the mock tests I was taking were wrong. I actually ended up looking in my books for the correct answers (which ended up letting me know that I was wrong in the first place.) So I took my test in just under 2 hours which was good for me because I would usually take about 1 1/2 hours. So it was good that I rook my time a little bit and ended up getting a better grade. I passed with an 86%, which for me is pretty dang good. So it feels good to finally be done.

So for my graduation present to myself I bought myself a new camera. I've wanted a new camera for a long time but I never had the cash flow to afford it. Now that school is done I'm glad to say I will be posting more pictures of totally random stuff. So here are a few of the pics I've taken so far.

I still can't figure out why he likes to wear his moms shoes. FINALLY!

So, it's about time that I graduate from my Radiology program. Because so few of us are actually going to walk at graduation we are going to have a graduation party that the family and friends can come to and show their support for the people in the program.

So here are the directions for you if you would like to come. It is on 90th south and Bangerter Hwy. The "party" is Wednesday, May 6th, and starts at 6:30 on the lower level of the Health Sciences building (farthest building south next to the institute building.) The program should only last about 45 minutes but will be fun and entertaining.

All those who have supported me over the past 2 years of this process are welcome to come.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://glilyquist.blogspot.com/2009/04/graduation-finally.html' title='Graduation. I want each of you to:

1: Read the riddle

2: Think of your answer before you look at other peoples answers

3: Post your answer.

After a few days I will give the correct answer. Then we can all see how our brains are working. So here is the first riddle.

There is a man that lives on the 15th floor of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the main floor. On his way back he takes the elevator to the 10th floor and takes the stairs the rest of the way. Why?

It's finally here

Well....I know that it's been a long time since I've written anything and life has been more hectic than ever but I've finally found some time to sit down and write a few things about how life has been and what's going on. So here goes nothing.

I'm finally done with 3 of 5 classes for my program. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I think that school stresses me out more than I realize. I've never enjoyed going to school. It always seems like it's a "must do" instead of a "can do" for me. So I've decided that once I'm done with the Radiology program I will end my schooling for good and say farewell to the halls of learning. I've looking into the different modalities after x-ray and they seem interesting enough, but I'm the type of person that can't stand to sit behind a desk all day, sitting on my butt doing nothing but saying "this next scan will be 2 min." It's just not how I work. I need the patient interaction, the moving around, and the difference. So x-ray it is for me.

I passed both semesters pretty well for me. My fall semester I pulled B's for the most part and the summer semester I got B's to A's. I'm hoping that I can pull all A's the next 2 semesters so I could have a chance of graduating with honors, but I still have a way to go before my GPA gets close enough. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

A few weeks ago my SLCC teacher Dave called me up and offered me a job teaching the RPT (limited x-ray tech.) class with him at the DATC. I couldn't believe that he would actually call me and offer me a teaching job. I guess he sees a lot of potential from me if he is willing to have me help teach people how to do x-rays. So this will be my 3rd job now; Tanner Clinic, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, and now the DATC. I don't know how I'm going to juggle this schedule when I start school next week. I'm guessing that Tanner Clinic will cut back my hours to just the weekends and PRN during the week, but who knows.

While I've been out of school for the past few weeks I've spend a lot of time with Isaac. It's been so much fun and so stressful. He's getting to the point where he knows what he wants, but we can't understand him half the time. It gets so frustrating because if we don't understand he gets angry and starts to whine at us. I thought that I had pretty good patience, but Isaac sure is testing it a lot recently. His favorite thing is the Wiggles. All day long it's the Wiggles. It's the only thing we've found that can actually keep him entertained for more than 30 sec. and I'm about to throw them out the window. I feel like I eat, sleep and drink the Wiggles all day everyday. Just in the last few weeks he's all of a sudden scared of his room. He won't go to sleep in his bed and freaks out if we put him in there if he's still awake. He actually has to be asleep before we can put him in his bed. Danae and I are at our wits end with this. We can't figure it out. We've had to put him in the car and go for a drive sometimes before he will go to sleep. Any tips from anybody would be appreciated.

I've applied to some tuition wavers and scholarships so hopefully I will be finding out about those in the next few days. If I get the scholarship the U of U will be paying for the remaining semesters, books, and my Rad. Tech. testing fee. Then I'm contracted to give them one year of full-time work. I'm hoping that I can get the scholarship, it would be a great opportunity to work for such a large hospital.

Until next time.....

Ok, this is one of the funniest stand up comedians I've ever seen!!! I'm busy as I can be with school and working pretty much full-time at my two jobs. Danae doesn't like it much but unfortunantly it's a necessary evil right now.

My "Gary's Goodies" is actually doing really well. My most popular sell is my caramels. The people that I work with at my clinical site keep telling me that I need to get some business cards so I can hand them out to people when they ask me about my business. Also that I need to have pictures on my site. I've made about $80 or so and people keep asking for more :D

Work is very hectic with the flu and RSV season in full bloom right now. I'm doing tons of lab work and a lot of x-rays. So I don't have a whole lot of time at Tanner to do my homework, but my time is well spent up at Huntsman.

My New Custom Logo

So these are some of the ideas that I've come up with for the logo of the new business. Isaac was ALMOST old enough to SOMEWHAT understand what was going on. I would say his favorite part was going to Grandma Hanna's (Kae Loy's) and playing in her new playroom. He seemed to spend a lot of time in that room. The good part about that is that it wore him out and he slept at my parents house for almost three hours.

I want to thank EVERYBODY for all the wonderful gifts you gave me. I'm very grateful for the wonderful families that I have. I couldn't have asked for a more black/white mix in my life. The differences between the Lilyquist family and the Hanna family are quite drastic but I wouldn't trade if for anything. Again, Thank You for everything all of you have done for me and my family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

PS...If anybody wants to get together at our place for New Year's feel free to come over. If you say you're coming though, you have to bring treats for all and really show up :)

1 down, 4 to go

I can't believe it! I'm done with my first semester of Rad School. It's amazing how fast 4 months goes by when you're trying to work a full-time and a part-time job, go to school full-time and do clinicals (for free) 24 hours a week. You don't really have much time for anything else.

I was pretty scared that my grades wouldn't be that great due to some previous tests that I didn't do so good on, but I was able to pull an A- in all of my classes. Yeah for me! :) After our finals on Tuesday we made breakfast for the class and watched National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Only 6 of us stayed for the movie but it was still fun. So now I have a couple of weeks before I have to get back in the swing of things. Until then...

It's almost over....

I can't believe that I'm finally thru with this first semester. It seems that I haven't done a whole lot, but then again I don't have a whole bunch of time to sit and think about what I'm doing. I just have to do it and move on to the next thing I have to do. It's been a definite roller coaster of events and issues. I addressed one of the first issues in my last blog: never seeing Danae and Isaac. Now that I have the job at Huntsman I still don't see them as much, but at least I get to see them 2 or 3 times a week instead of just one. Since I've started that job it's been fairly easy. I've had to repeat a portable abd. and chest but out of the 15 or so I've done by myself I would say it's pretty good.

I've had some difficulties with my clinical instructor. At the beginning of the semester when I was made co-president with my buddy Ryan, we were told that anytime we go to a job fair or do a presentation at a High School that that will count for our clinical hours for that day. When I went to clinicals on Tuesday I found that I was 14 hours short and I basically had one day left in the semester to make up the hours. Most of those missing hours are due to her not counting all of the hours that we went to these events for the school. It's not right that Dave, my instructor, tells me that it should count for all of our clinical hours and to have my C.I. tell me that she's not counting them. I would like to say that I told her how it was going to be, but I didn't. So now I have to go in on the make up day, which I technically should have off, and make up those hours as best as I can. So Stupid!!!! The only redeeming part of this story is that Dave is going to talk with her and let her know how it is. :)

I'm really starting to stress out about my finals though. I'll start at the beginning of this rant to have it make sense. When I started my job at Huntsman I was supposed to go through an orientation in order to be on the payroll. Due to a communication problem between my new boss and me I just found out that unless I get to the orientation on the 10th of this month I won't be paid until after Christmas. How lame is that!! The one very bad part about that is that my comprehensive final in my physics class is that day at 11:00. So I had to convince Dave to let me take that final on Tuesday. Do you want the good news to the bad first?? Well here is the good news. I get an extra day to study for it. Bad part: it's 100 questions and I have two more finals following right after it. OUCH! So I'm trying to study as much as I can and not drive Danae crazy with all my "Will you quiz me?"'s.

Once I've finished with all three of my finals for that day we're going to do breakfast and a movie as a class, which will be pretty fun. I guess the school approved us bringing in some waffle irons. So we'll do waffles with all the trimmings then clear out a large area for us to watch either "A Christmas Story"..."You'll shoot your eye out" or "A Christmas Vacation" with the Griswalds. Either way it will be a good relaxation after such a stressful day.

Progression... isn't it nice

So things are going pretty well for me in school so far. It seems like time is totally flying by. I can't believe that I've already been in school for almost a semester. Thank goodness I have lots of things to keep me busy. Unfortunantly being that busy is taking a toll on our marriage. The only times that I get to spend with Danae and Isaac are Wednesday nights, everyother weekend and Sundays. I wish I could spend more time with them because I miss them. I miss spending time with Danae just sitting there cuddling, holding hands or just sitting next to her. I miss watching Isaac play and laugh all the time. I don't want to be the Dad that has missed out on my childs first few years of life because all I did was work. I know that it's important, and I know I have to do it to help with the bills, but some times it really is a necessary EVIL.

Thank goodness something fell into my lap this last week. I had one of my instructors from SLCC come to the U of U and work with us this last Friday. I saw him and the supervisor of the department talking in the hall. As I was walking into a room to start and exam I heard my name, I instantly thought "This is good. Dave is talking to my supervisor about me." Later that day Alex pulled me aside and offered me a job working at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. It's only on Saturday and Sunday everyother weekend but atleast it gets my foot in the door for a better job down the line.

I promptly told him I would love to have to job and I spoke with Rika at Tanner about cutting back my hours there so I could spend more time with my family and less time at work. Unfortunantly when I talked with Rika I gave her the option of chosing the 3 days a week that I worked. I guess I didn't specify that I didn't want to work on Saturday anymore and I heard from a coworker that she still wants me to work everyother Friday/Saturday which just isn't going to work. So I hope that she can make things work there because I would hate to burn any bridges. Tanner Clinic has been a great place for me to grow and really work on my skills, but now it's time to me to go on to bigger and better things.

Do we like it or not?

So I started my first semester of Rad school on Wednesday last week and my clinicals on Thursday. Can I tell you how much I don't like school! The clinicals I can handle, but school just does me in! The first day wasn't too bad because we didn't do much and the teachers gave handouts that they went over and helped us with the answers. Today was my second day of class and I felt like crap. My right shoulder has been having some nerve problems for the past few days so that bothered me the whole time and them I started to get a fever in the middle of class. I was FREEZING and had some body aches but the aches I could handle. After school I had to get to work and I drove from 90th and Bangeter to Layton with my car seat heater on and the AC off in the car. It actually felt pretty good. Then my fever broke at work and I could feel it. I got way hot and uncomfortable but it finally went down. Trying to do all my homework is something I have to get used to all over again. I haven't been in school for a year and a half so I have to try and get back into the habit of doing homework when I get it and not procrastinate until the last minute.
Clinicals is going to be really exciting for me, except when I have to go to one of the clinics that the University owns. They are absolutely SLOW! On a busy day at the clinics they will do about 12 x-rays. 12 X-RAYS!! That's nothing. We'll do average of about 60 in a day. So it looks like when I'm there I'll have lots and lots of time to study or read. My first day in clinicals was good though. They put me in the chest room by myself because they knew I could handle it since I've been in the field for a while. One thing I did miss out on though was a guy tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the heart. What the heck! What a horrible way to die! Anyway, I missed out on it because I was at one of the clinics, but they ended up opening him up and massaged his heart until they brought him back. How cool would that have been to be there for that and see that happen. Alli, I know you brought somebody back by doing compressions so you have a good idea how it feels to do that.
So the first week of school has been ok so far. I'll make sure I keep you updated on how things are going.

My top choices

Well since it seems that everybody else is doing this I thought I would do it too so people might find something out about me that they didn't know. I finally get accepted into my Radiolgy program at SLCC, which is great, an then it all goes into a rollercoaster from there. After not moving to Vegas we were still in the mindframe of selling our house and finding something better, mainly a house instead of a townhome. So I looked on KSL, Realtor.com, Remax and just about every other home finder I could get my hands on. Finally we decided to just give up and stay where we are, which was just fine with me. Then I happened upon Richmond American homes going in right across the freeway from us. I checked the home prices and did a mortgage calculator and it seemed that the house would be in our price range. We were so excited! So we put down our earnest money, picked our floorplan, got the corner lot and even went to the design center just to check things out. We knew what we wanted and were ready to get the ball rolling...until we found out how much it was going to cost us. Between closing costs for our house, paying 2 realtors and whatever needed to get done it was going to cost us almost $15,000 and we weren't even started with the new house. So we decided it would be better to not even worry about the new house.

Then I had the bright idea to check for existing homes, and much to everybodys surprise, we found something that we liked. We actually made an offer on the home the next day. Once again the house that we thought we could stay in for a long time turned out to be too much money again. I can't believe how much money a realtor makes off a house sell. For our house to sell with a realtor they would get their average 3% off the home which would end up being $6,200. It's absolutely ridiculous! So to say the least, I am going to do for sell by owner as much as possible in the future. Realtors are a rip off!!! So needless to say we are staying in our home atleast until next year.

This is why I'm bald

I've been up, down , excited, disappointed, and frustrated in the past month and it all has to do with school. Finding out that UNLV's Rad. program had a deadline of Feb 1stand racing and there to do the whole interview process started it all. I can't tell you how nerve wracking it was to do all that work in such a short amount of time. After speaking with SLCC and finding out that I'm still 2009, POSSIBLY 2008 (if I'm lucky) that's where my frustration kicks in. After going from 2011 to 2009 in one semester I thought for sure I would be starting this fall. But nooo, I'm not that lucky. So after getting a call directly from the head of the Rad. department and letting me know that I'd been accepted I was excited for this wonderful adventure to begin and to finally get my school started.
So we put our house up for sale and started looking for homes in Vegas. Realtors don't get the oint that it's "For Sale by Owner" and they called everyday sometimes 3-4 a day would call. We found a buyer, but it was dependant upon selling her house which for us would be just fine because it was Kae Loy and we weren't in a big hurry to sell. So I was prepared to help her get her house together to get it ready to sell so we could sell ours to her and we could all come out winners, because that's what Jay wants. Ha ha ha.
We had our house up for sale for just over a week when I get a call from SLCC and they tell me they have an opening for fall 2007. Talk about a kink in the plans! I was totally in the mindset of Vegas and only Vegas, now I've got this other option. I knew what was going to happen but I had to get advice from others to solidify my decision. That day I had been denied my application for "Good Neighbor" to get a lower tuition cost. So the first year of school would be over 10K and the whole two year program would be less than 8K for SLCC. So that was a big decision that was made easier by the amount of money we would save.
So now we've decided to stay, not sell the house, keep our jobs, and unfortunantly we're still getting calls from realtors about the house. So now that we're staying things have totally changed. The money situation is still the same and I'm sure it will be for a while, but money is a problem with everybody, unless you're Donald Trump or that dude that invented the internet. So in two years from now I'll be graduating and invite all of you to a party celebrating the joyous occasion. Yes that's right, I've finally made it. After waiting and waiting to get my schooling done it's finally in reach. The department head, George Pales, decided that he would call me personally and tell me that I've been accepted to the Radiology program starting this fall. I can't tell you how excited I am for this to happen, even though it means moving down to Vegas and leaving both families behind. So if anybody knows anybody that wants a completely fair priced townhome let me know.

It's about time

I have been jumping through hoop after hoop to try and get everything lined up for UNLV's Radiology program. So to make a short story long here it is from the beginning.
I finally made the decision to try and get my career going in January since my waiting time was still 2009. One of my co-workers went to UNLV and got her certificate from there and it got me thinking. I actually gave the idea to another co-worker first and decided to take my own advice. So after applying in Jan. I called the school to find out if I had to specifically apply for the Rad. program and the girl told me that once I apply to the school I also apply to all the majors. So I'm thinking that I'm golden and good to go. Little do I know that I have to apply for the Rad. program seperatley and the deadline for the application is March 1. It's 6 days before I find this nice bit of information out and I am scrambling to get the list of requirements done. Not only do I have to fill out paper work, I have to do a 1-2 page essay on why I want to go into Radiology, do four hours of service at a Hospital, get my tranascripts, have an interview with the head of the deaprtment and have my acceptance letter to the school. Could they make it any harder!?
I got everything except my acceptance letter and my interview done on the 27th. Since he had to have all the papers before the 1st there was no way that mail would make it in time. So what do I do? I tell my boss I'm sick and drive my butt down to Vegas at 3am in order to get to my interview by 11am. That was difficult. Not only had it snowed the day before in Northern Utah, we hit the tail end of the storm in southern Utah. Danae thankfully got off work and went with me and we traded off driving. At one point we stopped and took a 40 min. nap in the car in a Motel 8 parking lot. FYI, bucket seats don't make the best beds. So we got down there in plenty of time and found the office of Dr. George Pales Head of Rad. He was a very nice man. He actually had both of us come in his office and talk with him, which was great because I wouldn't be able to remember everything he said and would be in big trouble for forgetting the important details. In the end he basically said that he's glad I'll be joining the team. So it sounded like I just might be starting the Rad. program in the fall. I'll find out if I've officially made it through by the 2nd week in April.
So now the problems that arise are selling the house, figuring out where we're going to live, and actually making the move down to Vegas. Plus a few other that will come in to play in the next couple of months. YEAH FOR ME!!!

Long time no blog

So, last time I blogged I was angrified with my boss because frankly I didn't think that she's a very good supervisor. Since then things have changed and my job has gotten much better. I get to stay home all day with my baby boy, which rocks, and then I work at night. So when I get to work I only have to deal with my stupid co-workers for a few hours. So for the most of my work time I get to spend it all alone. Which is perfectly fine with me because I would rather do the work myself.

So I'm still waiting for UNLV to get back with me about going to school. I called the other day and found out that they no longer have the Radiology program as an Associates Degree, it just prepares you to take the ARRT test to be a licensed Rad Tech. So I don't have to go thru all the schooling and might be able to get out of there in just one year instead of two. So after I get done with the Advanced Radiology program I might be able to get on at Touro University in their Ultrasound program and do my Echocardiograms that I would like to do. So it looks like I've for a lot of potential to do a lot of different things down in Vegas.

My baby boy is the cutest thing in the whole world! He's really starting to show his personality. We recently got him a new toy that helps him to sit up and play with a bunch of toys. The first night we got it and put it together he loved it, and so did Danae. There is one toy on there that has pictures of animals and when he hits it it makes the animals sound, says its name in english and spanish then plays some music. So it starts playing "Old McDonald" and Danae starts dancing to the music. It was hilarious. He's almost five months now and is getting to be such a big strong boy.

Until next time....

Viva Las Vegas!!

Well, I figure it's about that time that I move on with my career and get the ball rolling. Yes that's right Las Vegas here I come. After finding out that I haven't moved up at SLCC at all and that I'll still be starting the program in 2009, I thought that it would be better for me to move to Vegas and get the ball rolling. What do we all think about this? Well...basically the whole Hanna/Ertmann/
Lilyquist clan is more than ready to up and move to Vegas.
Well I've come into some new information that might make me stay. There is a job working in an Orthopedics office doing x-rays by LDS. They have one tech. for 7 doctors and I know from experience how many x-rays they do. So they're in the market for another tech., which would be me possibly. So this puts a little bit of a hump in the Vegas plan. We'll see how things pan out though. I would still love to get away and experience some new things, so we'll see what the future holds.

I hate stupid people

So my boss at work decided that it would be OK for me to come back and start working on Thursday days, which is great because that means more hours for me. I just figured that it would start the next week, but she already had people working for the next two weeks. So when I finally got my first normal Thursday she comes up to me and says that she's going to make some changes in the schedule. As it turns out, one of the "one nighter once a week" x-ray techs decided she no longer wanted to work for a podiatrist and wants to come work in x-ray full-time. So my boss decided to give her my Thursday day shift of 8 hours and put me on nights at a 6 hour shift. Now we all know how passive a person I am so I just said that it was OK, but deep down I'm so angry. I specifically asked for those hours so I could get the money that we need to make ends meet and not have to live paycheck to paycheck. I wish that I was a Rad Tech and mad a couple more years of experience so I could take over her position and do the same freakin' thing to her and see how she likes it.

2007, what a rush!

It's now 2007, what a crazy thought.
